Level One Corrective Exercise Specialist CourseThe BioMechanics Method Corrective Exercise Specialist educational program begins with Level One. Level One students complete a correspondence course that consists of five distinct, but interconnected, educational components:
The Fundamentals of Structural AssessmentThe Fundamentals of Structural Assessment is the first of five Level One learning modules that must be successfully completed in order to gain Level One certificate status. This module teaches you a step-by-step process for conducting postural assessments to help you identify common musculoskeletal imbalances that can cause pain. You will learn verbal, visual, and hands-on techniques for assessing the feet and ankles, knees, lumbo-pelvic hip girdle, thoracic spine and shoulder girdle, and the neck and head. You will also learn how posture misalignments or issues in one area of the body can cause pain and/or injuries in other areas. Most importantly, The BioMechanics Method structural assessment process is designed to enable fitness professionals to easily and competently explain the assessment results to clients. Understanding Muscles and MovementOnce you have completed The Fundamentals of Structural Assessment, you will progress to the second learning module - Understanding Muscles and Movement. This module is designed to explain in easy-to-understand terms how the whole body moves together as an integrated series of muscles, tendons, bones, ligaments, and fascia; information that is essential for understanding the root causes of pain. The Understanding Muscles and Movement module will teach you about major muscle groups in detail, as well as specific muscle origins, insertions, and functions. You will also discover the unique approach of The BioMechanics Method in regard to understanding how gravity and ground reaction forces change the way the body moves - knowledge that is imperative for designing corrective exercise strategies that will alleviate pain. The Fundamentals of Corrective ExerciseThe third learning module, The Fundamentals of Corrective Exercise, builds upon the knowledge and skills you learned in The Fundamentals of Structural Assessment and Understanding Muscles and Movement modules. The Fundamentals of Corrective Exercise introduces you to over 30 of the most effective exercises for eliminating lower back, hip, shoulder, knee, neck, foot, and ankle pain caused by common musculoskeletal imbalances. You will learn self-myofascial release techniques that will enable you to alleviate restrictions in muscles and fascia, stretching exercises that will help you increase a client's mobility and range of movement, and strengthening exercises that you can use to help people begin to move correctly and without pain. You will also learn valuable strategies for regressing exercises when necessary, and then progressing exercises as your client's abilities improve. Corrective Exercise Program DesignOnce you have completed The Fundamentals of Corrective Exercise, you will progress to the fourth learning module - Corrective Exercise Program Design. This module ties together the skills you obtained in the first three learning modules and focuses on developing effective client communication strategies so you can apply your skills in the real world working with clients in pain. You will be taken through the corrective exercise program design process from start to finish, developing and using effective communication skills along the way. You will learn how to contact a prospective client and conduct the initial interview, observe how to communicate information as you perform the structural assessment process, learn how to sell the program to a client, conduct a session, and design an entire corrective exercise program tailored to the specific needs of your client. The Complete Exercise Library and Level One Practical Skills Requirement and CompletionThe Level One Practical Skills Requirement and Completion is the fifth and final learning module. Successful completion of this module will enable you to obtain certificate status signifying your competency as a Corrective Exercise Specialist in Level One of The BioMechanics Method. The practical skills which must be successfully demonstrated in this module include your ability to conduct a structural assessment and design corrective exercise sessions. This module contains The Complete Exercise Library (Level One)which contains over 200 corrective exercises with progressions and regressions (2-disc DVD set and reference manual) . Client assessment tools and program design worksheets are also included on CD-ROM. Each learning module in Level One contains a step-by-step DVD, an integrated reference manual and workbook, and a test. You must successfully complete each of the five Level One learning modules in the correct order within 12 months to obtain your Level One course completion certificate.
